About
In the Spring of 2010 on a beautiful post flood evening a group of men interested in Roller Derby met todiscuss the possibility and reality of forming a men’s roller derby league. The meeting confirmed there was enough interest and even the name “Rock City Riot” as selected!
Practice began shortly after that first meeting. Under the leadership and coaching of some acclaimed derby girls the men began practicing and preparing for their skills testing. The men were eager, the coaches were patient and the bruises were fun!
As the season changed from Spring to Summer the men of Rock City Riot practiced indoors, outdoors and everywhere in between. To gain some community exposure the league participated in “Streets Alive” by skating the entire loop the first event and for the second event hosted a mini-bout on Broadway in downtown Fargo. The City’s of Fargo and Moorhead love their Roller Derby and we love the Fans!!
Rock City Riot participated in its first bout mid-August as a pre-bout for the FMDG. The league formed two teams and it was Freddy vs. Jason. Team Jason was victorious in the bout, but the men of RCR won the after-party as a League.
As the summer winds turned colder the league formed its first two official intra-league teams:
- Quad Brawlers
- Hip Check Murphys
The Leagues travel team skate as: Rock City Riot
This is a skater owned and operated league. No one gets paid (in fact we all pay dues to skate) and everyone volunteers.
If you’re interested in joining the Riot – we’re recruiting….and more than just men to skate!! Here are some of the positions YOU can volunteer for:
- Skaters (we’ll teach you the game)
- Referee’s – (on skates and almost as much fun as being a derby dude)
- NSO’s (non skating officials….you won’t believe what we track for a bout!)
- Security/Bout production volunteers
