It’s not too late to join! The season of hip checks, blocks, grand slams and time in the naughty box may be underway; but it’s not too late for YOU to throw on some skates and join the Riot on the rink! We’re always ready to welcome guys with a good attitude and a desire to play!
Joining isn’t as difficult as you might think.
- Step 1 – Decide you want to join, or at least check us out.
- Step 2 – Come to a practice, meet the guys, throw on some skates and see what happens!
We believe it’s really only a two-step process! After you skate with us, you’ll be hooked and want to pick your skater name! Not convinced you wanna hit and be hit on the rink? Have we got a deal for you! The Riot is also looking for volunteers! It takes an army of dedicated and committed roller derby fans and enthusiasts to make it all happen. Some
ways to volunteer are: bout production, officiating (some officials are on skates most are off-skates), merchandise (swag) sales just to mention a few.
Rock City Riot is a skater owned and operated league. All skating members pay monthly dues, purchase and maintain their own equipment and uniforms as well as participate on a variety of league committees.

Equipment Required to play:
- Quad Skates/Roller Skates (It is roller derby after all, not inline derby!)
- Knee & Elbow Pads
- Wrist Guards
- Mouth Guard
- Helmet
- Several skaters also wear crash pads to protect their backside and hips.
Derby players love to talk about equipment and are always willing to share their recommendations and non-recommendations about equipment. We strongly encourage you to talk to a few of the skaters before investing in equipment. There are a variety of levels of quality – we recommend getting the highest quality you’re able to. You will get hit, you will fall down and we don’t want you to get hurt (well, maybe we do a little bit! That’s half the fun!!)
